BANTAENG regency is located 125 kilometers south of Makassar, the capital of South Sulawesi province. It measures 395.83 square kilometers, with around 170,057 inhabitants (2006 figure). Bantaeng consist of eight districts, 21 subdistricts, and 46 villages. To the north of Bantaeng lies the Lompo Battang Mountains. Bulukumba regency borders its eastern side; the Flores Sea is to the south, and Jeneponto regency is on its western border.
