Some teachers in Southeast Sulawesi realize the importance of equipping the youth, the generation forced to ‘inherit’ various environmental problems, with knowledge and awareness of the environment. They then try to instill awareness through education.

BACK in 2005, Asbar, a teacher in SMPN 17 state junior high school in Kendari, received an invitation from his principal, Milwan, and Focil Indonesia—an environmental education foundation—to heålp locally formulate a program on the environment. Phase by phase, starting from 2005 till 2006, Asbar, Milawan, and a dozen teachers from other schools, as well as a team from the National Education Department, took part in workshops and discussions
