NTB’s Illiteracy Eradication Front

West Nusa Tenggara province remains one of the least literate provinces in Indonesia. Students are now involved in programs to help alleviate the problem. A special umroh (lesser Haj pilgrimage) prize awaits subdistrict heads who manage to eradicate illiteracy completely in their territory.

AS record has it, the number of illiterate people in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) until this January reached as high as 321,000 people above 15 years of age, most of whom are females. They are spread in 93 villages in 10 regencies/municipalities in this province,
