HIS name is Jahan. A tattoo reading “1981” has been inked into his right arm. “It was the year when the people from the cities came and felled the forests that belong to the spirits of our ancestors,” said the 44-year-old. “Since then there’s been no more rattan growing here. There are no more bracelets and necklaces made from rattan available anymore.” Around Jahan’s arm hangs a blue, plastic bracelet.
