A FADED, frail and torn sign with the words Welcome to Sokola Makassar greets one who enters the house, in the coastal area of Mariso, a subdistrict near Makassar. It is built on wooden poles, with walls and the roof made from the same material. There is barely enough space for a garden in the 80-square-meter land. It is where Sokola Makassar, a small alternative school for children who have never been to school, held their activities.
