The island of Timorone of the biggest in East Nusa Tenggara provinceis best known for its vast expanse of savannas and barren hills. Continued dry spells and threats of famine are almost a given among the local population. So when Tempo contributor Putri Ayudya visited the village of Fatumnasi in South Central Timor, she was amazed at all the greenery and thick forests before her. Located on the slopes of Mount Mutis, Fatumnasi is rich in unique flora and fauna. Living with nature seems to be the focal point of the villagers' daily lives.
