The Pinisi is a traditional wooden sailing vessel at one time primarily built by the Bugis and Makassar ethnic groups in South Sulawesi. The two-masted ship has seven sails. It mainly functions as an inter-island means of transportation, and a cargo freighter.
The regency of Bulukumba in South Sulawesi, is the original birthplace of thepunggawa, or shipbuilding experts. This regency is also the center of pinisi production. Abdul Hakim Daeng Paca,
