The ancestors of the Tobelonese moved northward to look for better settlements. They developed Tobelo as the capital city and business center of North Halmahera.

Around 30 kilometers from Tobelo, there is a hamlet that has a small lake with clear water containing nila and mujair fish, and various snails. This hamlet is called Kampung Telaga Lina, the same as the name of the lake. If we want to go there we have to journey overland for two hours from Tobelo.
