On a veranda in Bukit Timah, Riau, Hamdan sat still, gazing at the trees in front of the house. A helping of rice and omelet on a plate in his lap was left ignored.
From the house, Salman Efendi, Hamdan's older brother, approached him. Tenderly, Salman stroked his shoulder, saying good morning and bringing him a medicated capsule and a glass of water. Hamdan drank and then had his breakfast.
