THE pungent scent of ripe durians fills the air of the protected forest at Sesaot, in Rinjani National Park, West Lombok regency, West Nusa Tenggara province. Ahmad Mulyadi, a Sesaot resident, is busy harvesting the fruit, trying to avoid its notoriously sharp barbs. "Each of the trees I've grown produces 50-150 durians," said the 45-year-old man, grinning. Ahmad also plants rambutan, mangosteen and cacao trees.
