Drones were first used as targets in military exercises. Now, as the technology has developed, their functions have become more diverse. The unmanned aircraft are now used for scouting, warfare, seeding artificial rain, hotspot detection, and taking photos and videos from the air.
In the last decade, worldwide interest in drones has grown dramatically, triggered by the US, which has been vigorously developing them for military use. The plunge in prices and drones' increasing practicality has encouraged research institutes, universities, private companies and even individuals in Indonesia to begin producing them. The following describes several Indonesian drone innovations made in the public interest.
