Tanjung Leban used to be known as 'the village with a thousand roots'. That was how Japanese occupiers described it during World War II, as its thousands of underwater tree roots could be seen through the village's crystal-clear waters at the shore. Today, such an image of Tanjung Leban is hard to summon.
