Until today, it is fair to say that the government has never given any opportunity nor political recognition to fisherwomen. The bill on the protection and empowerment of fishermen, fish farming and salt mining currently drafted by the House of Representatives (DPR) is an opportunity to accomodate such a need. R. Narmoko Prasmadji said he would try to ensure that the bill contain clauses favoring fisherwomen's empowerment. "There should be legal and economic protection for fisherwomen," said Narmoko.
