Biodiversity in a Speck of a Park
Tuesday, March 22, 2016
Just 1.5 hectares square, Bumi Banten is a modest park, especially when compared to the huge state-owned parks nearby. However, Bumi Banten has a strength all its own. Located in Banjar Kelod in the village of Pakraman Renon, Bumi Banten is a floral shangri-la.
In the park, one can find a glimpse of a number of rare endemic plants. These include sandat (Cananga odorata), magnolia, marigold, oleander, menuri (a kind of jasmine) as well as pacar air (Impatiens balsamina). A variety of flowers like Pandanus and fruit trees like the gourka, badung (Garcinia dulcis), gelicung, kepundung (Baccaurea racemosa) and wild mangosteen also grow in abundance.
