Improving Belu’s Teachers

The Belu Regency has 400 pre-school teachers, most of whom are high-school graduates and housewives. Save the Children and Belu’s education office equip these teachers with pedagogy training.

A large, blue tarpaulin sheet was stretched on several wooden sticks to shelter the 30 women who gathered underneath it for the monthly Teachers’ Activity Center meeting. The women, wearing white shirts and the traditional woven sarung from East Nusa Tenggara, were divided into small groups. On their tables were a variety of material: color paper, old newspapers and magazines.
