Prison Catfish Sold at a Superstore

Inmates at a correctional facility in Sungguminasa, Gowa Regency, are raising catfish. Now their fish are sold at a hypermarket in Makassar.

THE water seemed to erupt when Hafid Hasan lowered his fishing net into the pond. The catfish he netted thrashed, splashing water onto his prison shirt. Hafid, on a five-year prison sentence for his part in a narcotics violation, appeared quite relaxed throughout the whole process. "The ones with white spots are sangkuriang catfish," said the 46-year-old.
