The military has appointed a general—who is believed to have been partly responsible for the scorched-earth tactics in East Timor—to the position of assistant Army chief of staff.

A rotation of posts has taken place one again in the Indonesian Military (TNI). The change in the lineup was announced by the chief of the Center for Military Information, Air Force Maj. Gen. Graito Usodo, at the beginning of last week. This time, the shakeup involved 94 high-level officers: 24 personnel from TNI Headquarters, 23 from the Army, 38 from the Navy and the remainder from the Air Force.
