From a young age, Mientje has always had an interest in Papuas different cultural groups.

MIENTJE D.C. Roembiak may appear serene and uncomplicated. But when she speaks, her voice sounds firm and forceful. Not too long ago she was named Woman of the Year by the Yayasan Penghargaan Indonesia (Indonesia Awards Foundation), for her tireless work in empowering Papuans. I prefer to work through the knowledge that I have, said this anthropology lecturer from Cendrawasih University in Jayapura.
