Poison Gas in the Abode of the Gods

One of the craters at Dieng is releasing poisonous gas. Different from Mount Merapi, the Dieng eruptions are not related to direct magma activity.

SARWANTO and Aziz Yuliawan got off their motorcycle and followed the pathway to the Timbang Crater, about 100 meters away.

It was still 6:30am and the Dieng plateau was chilly. The grass was still wet from the previous night’s dew. Some of the dew droplets formed small flowery ice crystals. The plateau is located 2,000 meters above sea level.
