A ‘NEOLIBERAL’ is someone who is annoyed with the ‘State’. But before them, there was someone who was not so much annoyed as amused: Frédéric Bastiat, a 19th century Frenchman. He compared the State with the figure of Figaro, who has to listen to demands from all directions at once:
