The word “populist” began with no negative associations. It was easy to accept because it implied equality between citizens. But then it changed.
IT began with the placement of chairs—with the 1789 French Revolution.
This was the revolution that proclaimed radical world change and set out to make new history. Its influence spread to distant corners and to very different centuries.
As is normal in all revolutions, especially revolutions that proclaim the world has changed and must change, there are always two conflicting camps. Often in bitter and unrelenting conflicts.
