The Islamic revolution in Iran projects the God of Islam as a forbidding force, anti-joy, suspicious of women, without mercy, and constantly alert. It is like the behavior of the God of the Old Testament: ‘a jealous God’.
HER name was Sarina. She was 16. Pretty, lively, spoke English and French well, active on social media. On September 21, 2022, she died.
Sarina Esmailzadeh joined the wave of protest engulfing Iran that began when a young woman about her age, Mahsa Amini, died while in the custody of police (the ‘moral police’) merely because she was not wearing her headscarf correctly.
