Someone once said that there is a close relationship between cellular phones and secular thought. Modern technology, they say, couldn't be created, promulgated and enjoyed had mankind not been freed from the fear of God. Kemal the Ataturk would have led a defeated Turkey had he obeyed the injunction that artillery and machine-guns were forbidden, "haram" weapons of the "kafir".
It is strange indeed when God is imagined as regulating artillery.
