THERE is suspicion that Sukanto Tanoto, Indonesia’s richest person in 2006, is involved in tax evasion. Asian Agri, a subsidiary of the Raja Garuda Mas Group, is suspected of creating fictitious costs, selling palm oil products at a low price to affiliated companies, and cooking the books so that the company always appears to be making a loss. These activities happened during the 2002-2005 period.
