A MAN went to Sarawak, leaving his hometown in Pontianak, West Kalimantan, in 1979. After living there for a few years, he was recruited by the State Party—now the United Bumiputera Party. It was this party which got him a citizenship ID card just before the Malaysian General Election, some years ago.
“After getting Malaysian citizenship, it was easy to join the Askar Wataniah or RELA force,” said the man, Abdullah, 44, to Tempo last week.
