Lying low for four years-after being banned by the Suharto regime-Tempo had never died. It underwent a transformation into various forms. Its personnel became a diaspora, spreading to a number of publications. On Tuesday, October 6, 1998, this magazine awoke from its long slumber, returning to its readers. What was the hectic beginning really like? How did the idea and realization of Tempo's republication come about? Here are some of the memories, after 10 years.

THE meeting was like a cheerful reunion that evening. In fact, it was attended by those walking past each other in office corridors daily. They were editorial personnel, library staff, design and photo crews, besides non-editorial, general affairs, advertisement, and management information employees. There was no celebration.
