Adding religious studies in public schools and general knowledge into Islamic boarding schools was Wahid’s idea. He developed the educational model for teachers of religion and institutions of higher religious education.

IT turned out that this graduate of the Tebuireng Islamic Boarding School soon went on to become somebody. At the height of his career, at age 35, four years before his tragic death, he held the important cabinet position of Minister of Religious Affairs.
