Between April 19-21, some 500 delegates, comprising top CEOs, government officials and senior NGO representatives, the international press and academia will descend into traffic-congested Jakarta to attend East Asia's World Economic Forum (WEF). The theme of discussion will be building trust and confidence among regional countries, with the hope of generating a freer flow of goods, funds and people, to help spur further growth and development in East Asia.
Trust is key for stimulating trade and investment, but it takes time to build. It is also an area where the host country, Indonesia, is ranked below its more established ASEAN peers in the cost of doing business and thus has much to catch up on, if it is to realize its vast potential and take advantage of the ASEAN Economic Community.
