Fourteen months into his five-year term, President Joko Widodo remains the enigmatic figure who came from nowhere thinking that running Indonesia would be the same as running Jakarta. He has since learned some hard lessons that it is notnot by a long chalk.
Still learning on the job, he has yet to show he has the fortitude to stand up to the vested interests and corrupt politicians and officials who continue to dominate political life and deny Indonesians the government they deserve.
