CHAIRIL Anwar was seriously ill. Blood oozed from his mouth and backside. On Friday, April 22, 1949, he was taken to the Burgerlijke Ziekenhuis Central Hospital (CBZ), today the Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital, in Central Jakarta. We carried him there in a blanket, Daoed Joesoef recalled one Saturday in late July at his home in South Jakarta.
