ONLY two months before the beginning of the disturbancewhich history later came to call Darul Islamon September 21, 1953, Boyd R. Compton visited Daud Beureueh at his home in Beureuneun, Pidie. Compton, an American researcher, caught the despondency of the owner of the house. He noted the signal given out by Beureueh, the former Military Governor of Aceh, Langkat, and Tanah Karo. It was: armed rebellion was shortly to break out in Aceh.
