THIS 300-year-old trading center is the largest urban area in Nusa Tenggara and the capital of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). Lying only 483 kilometers from the coast of northeast Australia, Kupang is closer to Darwin than to Jakarta. Having emigrated from surrounding islands and beyond, the population comprises a rainbow of races: Atoni, Rotinese, Savunese, Chinese, Florinese, Kisarese, Alorese, Solorese, Ambonese, Javanese, Arabs, Eurasians.
