THE Kapuas, with a length of 1,143 kilometers, is Indonesia’s longest river. This great waterway dominates the whole province of West Kalimantan (Kalbar), serving as the main highway deep into the interior, connecting the provincial capital of Pontianak with the upriver regencies of Sanggau, Sintang and Kapuas Hulu, as well as points near the border of East Malaysia.
