Java’s earliest temples may not have the monumental size or elaborate carvings of Borobodur or Prambanan, but when it comes to location, they can’t be beaten. Dieng temples are set on a mountain valley 2,000 meters above sea level. Even more spectacular are the Gedong Songo temples. Spread on the southern slope of Mount Ungaran, at an altitude of 1,800m, the temples offer visitors (OK, on a clear day) breathtaking vistas of Lake Raw
