Moro Killings
Over a dozen Filipino soldiers were killed in one of the worst shootouts with Muslim guerillas in three years. The violence occurred despite a ceasefire instated as the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and the Philippine government hold peace talks.

THE city of Al-Barka on the island of Basilan, southern Philippines, appeared quiet, last Wednesday afternoon. Houses and farms were emptied, abandoned by their owners.
