Once a person is infected, there is no cure. If a victim is fortunate enough to enjoy a long life, he will be permanently paralyzed. That is the impact of poliomyelitis, also known as polio. There is no other way to control the disease except by prevention through vaccination.

Polio is believed to have existed for as long as 3,000 years. Indication of it was found on Egyptian glyphs or statues which sometimes portrayed young people with limp arms
