Singkil: NO-Mans-land
Although virtually destroyed by the earthquake and tsunami, no attention has been given to Singkil. No publicity and no assistance have come its way. Forced to survive on their own, the residents are slowly emerging from their grief.

THERE is a popular saying in the eastern part and northern coast of Aceh: Ie bit, bu bit. Nyo kon droe gop bandum, which literary means: Pure water, pure rice. If you dont do it, others will. This proverb is not well known in southern Aceh, but the people of Singkil are actually practicing it. Being overlooked as victims of the earthquake and tsunami has taught them to think of themselves first.
