For the Love of a Guerrilla

Kartosoewirjo's love for a girl in Malangbong blossomed when he began working for the party. She endured the hard life of a guerrilla wife.

THE river stones over the gravestone are covered in moss under an umbrella of towering trees. It is a family graveyard behind the Jamik Mosque in Kampung Bojong, Malangbong, in Garut, a city in the highlands of West Java. The atmosphere was cool and peaceful when Tempo visited the gravesite last July. This is where Dewi Siti Kalsum, known as Wiwiek, the wife of Kartosoewirjo, lies in her final resting place.
