The Meaning of Independence
OUR nation has been a sovereign state for 65 years, yet some of its poorer citizens remain enslaved by poverty. We often see children at road intersections, begging for money from early in the morning until well into the night. Poverty-stricken mothers carry their infants under the relentless heat of the sun. They have not enjoyed the benefit that should have been brought before them by our country’s independence.
