Non-performing loans are like thorns in the flesh. Left there, they're painful; removed, they hurt. By writing off the bad debts, Bank Mandiri is apparently treating bad debtors gently. On the other hand, its action can be considered not transparent because it hasn't explained who the bad debtors are. Are they "naughty" conglomerates or small- to medium-businesses gone truly bankrupt?
