UP until the 1990s, people often used to refer to BCA as the Bank of Chinese Ancestry. The bank's owner, Liem Sioe Liong, was born in the Chinese region of Fujian. The majority of BCA employees were Chinese. Although Indonesians saved their money at the bank, most of those who shared in BCA's profits were of Chinese descent.
