From Pit Mine to Park

A biodiversity park is built in Sawahlunto on a former open coal mine excavation pit. The park boasts local vegetation that disappear as a result of the mining activities.

A PLOT of land totaling 24.28 hectares in a little town east of the city of Padang, West Sumatra, is being turned into a nature park. The park in Sawahlunto has been named the Emil Salim Kehati (Biodiversity) Park. The park is located on what was an open coal mining excavation pit which stopped operation in 1923.
