FEW people in Indonesia would know who Nio Hap Liang is, but mention Rudy Hartono, and almost everyone in the country would nod in recognition. But few people knowincluding those in the badminton communitythat Rudy Hartono used to be Nio Hap Liang.

Last Thursday afternoon, after volunteering at the Indonesia Golf Open tournament at Pantai Indah Kapuk course in North Jakarta, the badminton champion recalled how in 1967, at the age of 18, he decided
