The Business Competition Supervisory Commission has punished Caltex using the Anti-Monopoly Act. But it was an ineffective reprimand.

It was the first time the commission handed out a penalty. With the 1999 Anti-Monopoly Act as its basis, the commission ordered PT Caltex Pacific to cancel its tender for the procurement of pipes. The process of the tender had violated competition norms, since the three companies forwarding the tender, PT Citra Tubindo, PT Purna Bina Nusa and PT Patraindo Nusa Pertiwi, had set up a scheme to cheat.
