A Dutch-era provocation law and the offence of rabble-rousing have again flattened students and activists. But didn’t they cause public damage and even attack police?

The law has again returned to what it was under the New Order regime. Just look at the atmosphere over the last few weeks. Take, for instance, the South Jakarta District Court. As was the case with trials of demonstrators during the Suharto regime, the court was this time again filled with restive students and activists. They gave speeches and yelled out, criticizing the judges and security personnel to the point where judges reminded them: ̶...
