Market liberalization has failed to affect the welfare of the poor. The gap between rich and poor is widening; the tension between North-South is potentially explosive. Amartya Sen, an economist from Santiniketan, India, who won the Nobel Prize for economics, spoke in an exclusive interview with Arif Zulkifli from TEMPO at Cambridge, England.
