But what do Indonesians really know about the event, which the New Order regime referred to as the September 30 Movement (G30S)? For young Indonesians, books giving the New Order’s version are still their main reference about the incident. But some people are starting to doubt their authenticity.

JAKARTA, October 1, 1965. The situation was one of apprehension. A number of generals had reportedly been abducted and killed, their bodies dumped into an old well somewhere in Lubangbuaya, East Jakarta. There was no further information, only propaganda.
