Padang Bulan residents hope that Polonia will no longer be used as an airport. For them it has brought no benefit whatsoever.

THE iron-sheeting roof creaks loudly. The windows shake as if they want to break free of the frame that holds them. Glasses sitting on the table tremble spilling their contents. The lapo, or small drinks shop, feels like it is going to collapse. But the people inside seem unconcerned and remain absorbed in conversation.
