Threat Still Lingers over Press Freedom

PLANS by the government and House of Representatives (DPR) to revise Law No. 32/2002 on broadcasting have drawn criticism. A number of clauses in the proposed Broadcasting Bill, which is an initiative of the DPR, are considered as undermining press freedom because they prohibit the exclusive broadcast of investigative journalistic coverage. The Press Council is also voicing its rejection to the draft law.
