THE National Mudflow Disaster Management Team in Sidoarjo was finally formed by the central government on September 8. It is difficult to say whether this was a belated decision. After all, the team was formed 101 days after the mud began to gush out from the PT Lapindo Brantas gas-drilling field. The damage done by the gas exploration by this subsidiary company of the Bakrie Group is already quite extensive.
